An electronic price label (EPL) price synchronization system and method which increase price reliability while conserving system bandwidth. A storage medium contains an audit file containing scheduled price change messages. The storage medium may additionally contain an EPL data file containing correct price information or a price file containing correct price information. A computer terminal reads the audit file to obtain an item identification number for an item associated with the EPL from a price change message addressed to the EPL, determines the correct price of the item from either the EPL data file or the price file, sends the correct price information to the EPL, receives a comparison result from the EPL following comparison of the correct price information to displayed price information by the EPL, determines from the comparison result whether the displayed price equals the correct price, and if the correct price is not equal to the displayed price sends another price change message containing the correct price to the EPL.
Système de synchronisation des prix pour étiquettes de prix électroniques (EPL) et méthode permettant d'augmenter la fiabilité des prix affichés tout en préservant de la largeur de bande pour le système. Un support d'informations de ce système dispose d'un fichier d'audit contenant des messages de changements de prix prévus pour une certaine date. Ce support d'informations peut également être muni d'un fichier de données pour EPL ou d'un fichier de prix contenant dans l'un et l'autre cas des indications exactes sur les prix. Un terminal d'ordinateur procède donc comme suit : il lit le fichier d'audit pour obtenir un numéro d'identification d'un article associé au EPL d'après un message de changement de prix adressé au EPL; il détermine le prix exact de l'article en utilisant soit le fichier de données EPL, soit le fichier de prix; il transmet les indications de prix exactes au EPL; il reçoit un résultat de comparaison du EPL après que les indications de prix exactes ont été comparées aux indications de prix affichées par le EPL; il détermine d'après le résultat de la comparaison si le prix affiché correspond au prix exact, et, dans le cas contraire, transmet au EPL un autre message de changement de prix fournissant cette fois le prix exact.
