An electronic device and its method of use to randomly select the starting order of play for a group of golfers are provided. The electronic device is further capable of randomly assigning individuals from the group of players into teams for the purpose of team play. The electronic device may be portable or stationary. When stationary, the installation may be on or near the first tee of a golf course. The electronic device comprises a power source, a microcontroller, light emitting diodes (LEDs) or a liquid crystal display (LCD) and a portable or fixed chassis. Upon activation, the players are visually notified of their starting order and team membership.
