A tagging device including an electronic portion (2), consisting of an electronic circuit (20) and an antenna or winding (21), attached to a carrier portion consisting of a strip portion (1) made of a flexible material and coated with a layer of thermoplastic material (12). When the device is attached to a garment (11) and an electronic code is input via a separate electronic unit (3) into a memory of the electronic circuit (20), the resulting tagged garment (11) can be identified at any time by means of a code scanner (30).
