A B S T R A C T An electronic device for automatically changing and controlling the ambient temperature in a building between predetermined first and second temperatures comprises an electronic time keeping means, electronic visual display means, first and second temperature set means for the first and second temperatures, and a memory means for storing at least two times of the day which determine when the ambient temperature is changed to and maintained at a selected first or second temperature. The time keeping means has an output in terms of hours which is addressed to the memory means. Upon a match between the hour of the day and one of the stored times, a selector means makes a selection dependent upon the particular stored time of either the first or second temperature set means. A single temperature sensor is provided to sense the ambient temperature which generates an output corresponding to the ambient temperature. The output from the temperature sensor is compared to the output from the selected temperature set means. Upon detection of a difference, appropriate action is taken to activate or deactivate the selected heating or cooling means in controlling the ambient temperature.
