A graphical user interface (GUI) system and method for recording and processing labor hours of employees involves receiving actual registration data from a terminal, processing it in accordance with employee schedules, rules and other setup parameters, and displaying the resulting data in conjunction with a graphical depiction of a timeclock. The user can therefore view and readily comprehend the relationship between, for example, actual registrations, registrations that are planned in accordance with a work schedule, and registrations as modified by applicable rules. The user can manipulate the graphical indications representing such registrations as well as other graphical indications, such as those relating to defining rules, using GUI concepts such as the drag-and-drop operation.
