16 Abstract of Disclosure: The present invention relates to an electronically controlled wheelchair, comprising electric motors for driving the wheelchair wheels; electrically operable parking brakes for the wheels of the wheelchair; an electronic control circuit for the electric drive motors; and a manually operable control switch for conditioning the electronic control circuit, inclusive of interruption of the power supply to the electric drive motors and activation of the parking brakes in a neutral position of the control switch. In order that occurence of uncontrollable states of operation of the wheelchair, as may be caused in the control circuit by e.g. external electromagnetic alternating field, may be ended in a short time, according to the invention there is provided a neutral position detector detecting the neutral position of the manually operable control switch, which detector provides a motor stop signal while bypassing the electronic control circuit, when the control switch is in the neutral position, the stop signal interrupting the power supply to the electric drive motors. These advantages are ensured by a neutral position detector which in its various embodiments distinguishes itself from the conventional detectors of this kind by being principally constructed from a smaller number of component parts and/or more wear- resistant component parts. This structure enhances the reliability and permits detection of a narrower neutral position range.
