An electronically enhanced trading card system comprises a trading card including a subject printed thereon and an electronic memory element therein and a reader for communication between electronic components of the trading card and a personal computer. An executable playing file and at least one encrypted data file relating to the printed subject are stored on the electronic memory element of the trading card such that the data files are not directly readable by the personal computer. The executable playing file is executable by the personal computer to decrypt the data files on the trading card using encryption data codes stored on the reader.
