An electrophoretic display containing modified particles is described. As well as non-emissive display systems. In the electrophoretic display, an arrangement of microscopic containers is used, wherein each container contains a dielectric fluid and a suspension of particles having attached at least one organic group, wherein the organic group includes at least one ionic group, ionizable group, or both, and wherein fluid and the particles contrast visually. The electrophoretic display also includes first and second electrodes wherein the arrangement is located between these electrodes and wherein one of the electrodes is substantially visually transparent. The electrophoretic display further includes means for creating a potential difference between the two electrodes so that the potential difference causes the particles to migrate toward one of the electrodes.
L'invention concerne un affichage électrophorétique contenant des particules modifiées, ainsi que des systèmes d'affichage non émissifs. Dans l'affichage électrophorétique, on utilise un arrangement de contenants microscopiques dans lequel chaque contenant contient un fluide diélectrique et une suspension de particules auxquelles est attaché au moins un groupe organique, ce groupe organique comprenant au moins un groupe ionique, un groupe ionisable, ou les deux, et dans lequel le fluide et les particules contrastent visuellement. L'affichage électrophorétique comprend aussi des première et seconde électrodes, l'arrangement étant placé entre ces électrodes, l'une de ces électrodes étant sensiblement visuellement transparente. L'affichage électrophorétique comprend aussi des moyens de création d'une différence de potentiel entre les deux électrodes de façon que cette différence de potentiel fasse migrer les particules vers l'une des électrodes.
