ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: In pipes and the like of relatively heavy section, a boss is formed on the side of the pipe of section by drilling a hole in the pipe, forming a mold around the hole with the hole in relatively vertical position and depositing in the mold and against the walls of the pipe, thereby joining to those walls, electroslag metal which forms a boss on the pipe.
