ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and plant for the electroslag melting of shaped castings by remelting a consumable electrode in a slag bath with the concurrent fusing of an element, at the initial stage the fusion process is carried out by introducing the element to be fused into the slag bath to 0.2-0.5 of the depth of the slag bath by using a consumable electrode with a cross section that is at least equal to that of the element being fused. The use of the above outlined method and plant make it possible to diminish materially the production costs in making shaped castings and to rule out welding from a technological process.
