To quiet an electrostatic printing device when it is not in use, the information to be printed is memorized when a print request is received, the command is given to heat up the fixing means (36-40) if the temperature of those means is below the required temperature, and the print operation is triggered as soon as the required temperature is attained. This makes it possible to turn off the cooling fan when the printer is not operating.
