Abstract: An electrostatic particle precipitator includes a collecting electrode movable into and out of a region wherein there is a flow of flue gas to be treated and a region substantially out of the flow of flue gas wherein dust particles from the flue gas accumulated on the collecting electrode is removed. A discharge electrode is disposed in the first-mentioned region for generation of a corona current. The collecting electrode includes a plurality of plates mounted between a pair of spaced, movable support chains entrained about a pair of drive wheels and a pair of idler wheels. The individual plates, during movement, and before reentry into the first- mentioned region, are cleaned of the accumulated dust. The speed of movement of the collecting electrode is controlled within values whereby the occurrence of reverse ionization phenomenon is prevented.
