A path length control transducer as- sembly is created by utilizing an electro- static drive to move a transducer. By plac- ing a first electrically conductive plate (60) to a driver, and placing a second electrically conductive plate (64) on the movable ele- ment of a transducer, and then applying an electrical signal between these two electri- cally conductive plates, a force sufficient to move the movable element of the transducer is created. Placing an optical element or a mirror (70) on the transducer movable ele- ment allows this transducer assembly to be used in a ring laser gyro for path length con- trol.
