ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An intermediate carrier in a printer or copier operating on the electrostatic principle is cleaned with the aid of a brush from the toner residues left behind after charge image formation, toner development and transfer to the data carrier. The brush is surrounded by an extraction cowl which is connected to a suction device. The cowl is extended to form a stripper chamber, into which drop the toner residues removed from the brush. The stripper chamber comprises at least one suction opening, through which the toner residues are sucked off by means of a locally concentrated air jet. A slider inside the stripper chamber pushes the toner residues to the suction openings. In a second embodiment the suction opening is subjected to a to- and fro-movement inside the stripper chamber.
