An electrostatic spray device that maintains a consistent charge-to-mass ratio in order to maintain a consistent target spray quality is disclosed. During steady state conditions, the high voltage power supply adjusts the output voltage level in response to changing environmental and/or operating conditions. During transient conditions such as start-up, shut-down and changing flow rate conditions, the high voltage power supply ensures that the charge-to-mass ratio is maintained. During, start-up, for example, the high voltage power supply charges the high voltage electrode to a predetermined voltage level before the product is delivered to the charging location. During shut-down, the product delivery is stopped before the high voltage power supply shuts off power to the high voltage electrode, and during changes in product flow rate, the voltage level of the high voltage electrode is adjusted to maintain a consistent charge-to-mass ratio. The present invention also prevents afterspray by discharging the stored charge remaining in storage elements of the high voltage power supply.

L'invention concerne un dispositif de pulvérisation électrostatique permettant de maintenir un rapport charge/masse régulier de façon à obtenir une qualité régulière de pulvérisation sur cible. En régime continu de fonctionnement, l'alimentation haute tension règle le niveau de tension de sortie en réponse à des changements de conditions opératoires et/ou d'environnement. Lors de fonctionnement intermittent tel qu'au démarrage, à l'arrêt et lors de changement de débit, l'alimentation haute tension permet de maintenir le rapport charge/masse. Lors du démarrage, par exemple, l'alimentation haute tension charge l'électrode haute tension à un niveau de tension prédéterminé avant que le produit n'arrive à l'emplacement de mise en charge. Lors de l'arrêt, on arrête l'envoi de produit avant que l'alimentation haute tension ne coupe l'alimentation de l'électrode haute tension, et lors de changements dans le débit du produit, le niveau de tension de l'électrode haute tension est ajusté afin de conserver un rapport charge/masse régulier. L'invention permet aussi d'empêcher une pulvérisation après arrêt par suppression de la charge stockée dans les éléments de stockage de l'alimentation haute tension.
