Abstract of the Disclosure An element for detection of NOx gas substan- tially consisting of at least one titanium-containing oxide which is selected from the group consisting of (a) titanium oxide, (b) a solid solution wherein at least one element selected from the group consisting of aluminum (Al), gallium (Ga), indium (Zn), scandium (Sc), magnesium (Mg), yttrium (Y), neodymium (Nd), tantalum (Ta), antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) is contained in the solid-solution state in the titanium oxide, and (c) an oxide which contains titanium and other metal element(s) and has a perovskite struc- ture, and has such an oxygen deficiency that its nonstoichio- metric parameter (8) is in the range of 0.01 to 0.5. Thereby, NOx of an exhaust gas can be measured easily.
