A device (10) for raising and lowering or supporting a string or multiple strings (71) of pipe into a wellbore, whereby the device (10) provides a means for angular rotation of the pipe gripping elements (70) within the outer body (12) of the device (10) thus, allowing angular misalignment of the pipe axis and the device axis to be compensated for with no detrimental effects to the pipe (71) itself.
