In the method the supporting platform (4) is suspended from the support structure (6) via at least one hoisting device (9) and rope (10) comprised in the hoisting means (9, 9', 10, 10') and the supporting platform is lifted upwards in the elevator hoistway with a lifting ratio of 1:x, where x is greater than 1.
