In a closed loop elevator door control 2, a door motor armature voltage sensor 18 verifies the door speed reported by a speed sensor 17. If the speed reported by the voltage sensor is inconsistent with that reported by the speed sensor, a speed sensor fault signal is provided to the door control 15, indicating that the doors are not actually stalled. The doors are disabled by the door control if there has been an fault on closing and opening; otherwise, they continue to open and close normally until the number of faults exceeds a limit.
