Elevator Roping Arrangement Abstract In a traction drive elevator system, the ropes from the counterweight are fed over a secondary or deflection sheave to the bottom of a drive sheave, around the drive sheave for more than 180° and then to the elevator car. The sheaves contain polyurethane inserts for the rope. The draw angles, vertical and horizontal, are 1.5°.
