ABSTRACT An incandescent electric lamp having an ellipsoidal shaped envelope with a coating of a material thereon which trans- mits energy in the visible light range and reflects energy in the infrared range. The envelope has a major axis with two foci and an incandescent filament is provided which is mounted along said major axis with the two foci of the major axis of the ellipsoidal envelope located at spaced points along the filament, preferably between the end and one-half the distance of the center from each end of the filament, to reduce side and/or end aberration loses and to produce a more uniform temperature distribution along the length of the filament.
