Elongate Material Spreading and Tacking Apparatus and Method Abstract An apparatus and method is provided for heat tacking of elongate material or cables to a tire car- cass on both peripheral sides of a core opening, spreading the elongate material or cables lying over the core opening so as to position the elongate material or cables on either circumferential side of the core opening, and heat tacking the spread elongate material or cables to the tire carcass. The apparatus includes a frame having locating pads for positioning the heat-tacking and elongate material or cable- spreading subassembly with respect to the core opening. The tacking members are preheated to a tacking temperature so that when the frame is clamped onto the carcass, and the elongate material or cables are spread, the spread elongate material or cables are tacked to the carcass. A core plug may act as the elongate material or cable-spreading member and may be optionally removed when the frame is removed from the carcass.
