Embolic compositions comprising macromers having a backbone comprising a polymeric backbone comprising units with a 1,2-diol or 1,3-diol structure, such as polyvinyl alcohol, and pendant chains bearing crosslinkable groups and, optionally, other modifiers. When crosslinked, the macromers form hydrogels having many properties advantageous for use as embolic agents to block and fill lumens and spaces. The embolic compositions can be used as liquid embolic agents and crosslinked in situ or as preformed embolic articles, such as microspheres.

Cette invention concerne des compositions contre le risque thrombo-embolique renfermant des macromères qui comportent un squelette polymère comptant des unités avec structure 1,2-diol ou 1,3-diol, telle qu'un alcool polyvinylique, et des chaînes pendantes portant des groupes réticulables et, éventuellement, d'autres modificateurs. Lorsqu'ils sont réticulés, les macromères forment des hydrogels qui possèdent de nombreuses propriétés avantageuses pour l'emploi de ces macromères comme agents anti-embolie capables d'obturer et de remplir des lumières et des espaces. Les compositions anti-embolie peuvent être utilisées comme agents anti-embolie liquides et être réticulées in situ ou comme articles anti-embolie tels que des microsphères.
