There is disclosed a porous emboli deflector (100) for preventing cerebral emboli while maintaining cerebral blood flow during an endovascular or open surgical procedure. The device prevents the entrance of emboli of a size able to cause stroke (such as greater than 100 microns) from entering either the right (22) or left (24) common carotid arteries by deflecting emboli downstream of these vessels. The device (100) can be placed prior to any manipulation of the heart or aorta (10) allowing maximal protection of the brain during the index procedure. The deflector (100) has a low profile within the aorta (10) which allows sheaths, catheters, or wires used in the index procedure to pass. Also disclosed are methods for insertion and removal of the deflector (100).
L'invention concerne un système de déviation d'embole poreux (100) afin de prévenir une embolie cérébrale tout en conservant un flux sanguin cérébral au cours d'une intervention chirurgicale endovasculaire ou d'une opération chirurgicale. Le dispositif empêche qu'un embole, dont la taille pourrait provoquer un accident vasculaire cérébral (si elle était supérieure à 100 microns), ne pénètre dans les artères carotides communes soit de droite (22), soit de gauche (24), en déviant l'embole vers l'aval de ces vaisseaux. Le dispositif (100) peut être placé avant toute manipulation du cur ou de l'aorte (10), ce qui permet une protection maximale du cerveau pendant le procédé de repérage. Le système de déviation (100) est de profil bas dans l'aorte (10), ce qui permet le passage de gaines, cathéters ou fils utilisés dans le procédé de repérage. L'invention concerne également des procédés pour l'insertion et l'enlèvement du système de déviation (100).
