An embossed pile fabric (1) having a foreground (10) and background (12) with the foreground (10) having a depth in the order of 1.5/2.0 to 100 times that of the background (12). The background (12) can be formed by an engraving roll (50) having portions (12A) that are either mill engraved or acid etched, and the foreground ( 10) is formed by the engraving roll (50) having portions (16A) formed with a router engraved technique.

L'invention a trait à un velours gaufré (1) possédant un avant-plan (10) et un arrière-plan (12), l'épaisseur de l'avant-plan (10) étant comprise dans une plage s'échelonnant entre une fois et demi/deux fois et 100 fois celle de l'arrière-plan (12). Il est possible de constituer cet arrière-plan (12) à l'aide d'un cylindre à graver (50) dont certaines parties (12A) sont, soit gravées à la fraise, soit mordançées, et l'avant-plan (10) à l'aide d'un cylindre à graver (50) dont certaines parties (16A) sont formées grâce à une technique de gravage à la détoureuse.
