A high melting solid aromatic or cycloaliphatic azole- based chemical embossing inhibitor is essentially insoluble and inert in water and/or water alcohol mixtures. These solid azoles can be readily micronized and dispersed into water- based printing inks for use in producing textured foamed plastic surfaces. These compounds comprise a general class of 1-N substituted aminomethylaryl- or cyclohexyl- triazole and imidazole derivatives. Some of the preferred compounds are symmetrical di-functional triazole derivatives or have a carboxy moiety or a sulfonyl moiety attached to a nitrogen atom.
