An emergency lighting unit comprises a housing which contains the lighting unit circuitry. The housing includes a wall which defines at least once substantially circular opening therein. Extending partially through this opening is a substantially spherical lighting head containing a light source, such as a halogen lamp. The lighting head is rotatable by hand to any desired rotation to vary the field of illumination. In particular, this divisional application provides an emergency lighting unit featuring two embodiments of means adapted to support the light source.
