Provided are methods for inducing preservation in a patient and resuscitating that patient. At least three hours of preservation, with successful resuscitation, are realized using the methods described herein. The methods involve flushing a patient with an oxygenated, cold-flush solution, such as normal saline, having an energy source. The patient may be cooled to deep or profound hypothermia to induce preservation. The patient may be resuscitated by warming to from about 330C to about 360C, and then may be slowly warmed over a 24 to 72 hour period to normothermia. Kits for inducing preservation also are provided.

L'invention se rapporte à des méthodes de préservation d'un patient et à des méthodes de réanimation de ce même patient. Ces méthodes permettent de préserver un patient pendant une période de trois heures, suivie d'une réanimation réussie. Les méthodes consistent à apporter au patient une bouffée d'oxygène sous la forme d'un solution froide, telle qu'une solution saline, ayant une source d'énergie. Il est possible de refroidir le patient pour provoquer une hypothermie profonde qui permet la préservation. Il est ensuite possible de réanimer le patient en le réchauffant à une température comprise entre 330C et environ 360C puis en le réchauffant progressivement pendant une période comprise entre 24 heures et 72 heures pour favoriser un retour à la normothermie. L'invention concerne également des kits de préservation utilisés avec ces méthodes.
