ABSTRACT An emergency running ring for use in a tubeless tyre, adapted to be mounted upon a vehicle wheel rim, comprising a ring made of a suitable elasto- mer, and adapted to be secured to the rim by a reinforcement of the bead, comprising a plurality of radial passages ensuring a supply of air to the interior of the tyre, and cavities, incorporated into the said ring, filled with a lubricant, and closed off, the said cavities being opened, only upon loss of air-pressure from the tyre, by lever-action resulting from pressure applied by the tread of the tyre to the said emergency ring, and thus releasing the lubricant for the purpose of reducing friction, characterized in that the cavities are closed off and sealed by the configuration of the emergency ring and/or by auxiliary means in the pressurized tyre.
