An apparatus for exercising an emergency shutoff valve of a steam turbine manufactured by Elliott Co., frame sizes AYR, BYR, BYRH, BYRHH, CYR, DYR, and E-Line turbines with standard Elliott Trip systems and methods for installing and operating the same. A frame of the apparatus mounts on top of an emergency shutoff valve body and spans the axis of a valve stem of the emergency shutoff valve. A plunger is suspended from the frame and connects to the top of the valve stem of the emergency shutoff valve. The emergency shutoff valve, which is biased to spring closed, is held in place by the apparatus. With the valve thus secured, the tripping mechanism for the emergency shutoff valve can be disconnected from the valve stem and exercised, tested, or serviced. Additionally, the valve stem can be moved or exercised to assure its operability and to dislodge deposits or corrosion from the valve stem. Movement of the plunger is limited by retainer means that restrict movement of the plunger relative to the frame. By this arrangement, the valve stem can be exercised through a predetermined range of motion without risk of substantially interrupting the flow of steam through the emergency shutoff valve. Where practical, the emergency shutoff valve exerciser is preferably stainless steel, which has enhanced corrosive-resistant properties. The apparatus thereby extends the uninterrupted service life of the emergency shutoff valve by insuring the operability of the valve and providing means for maintaining the valve and other related components without shutting down the steam turbine.
Appareil de vérification d'un robinet d'arrêt d'urgence de turbine à vapeur fabriquée par Elliott Co., dans les formats AYR, BYR, BYRH, BYRHH, CYR, DYR, et par les turbines E-Line avec les systèmes standard Elliott Trip; et méthodes d'installation et de fonctionnement de cet appareil. Un cadre de l'appareil, monté sur le dessus du corps d'un robinet d'arrêt d'urgence, traverse l'axe d'une tige de soupape du robinet d'arrêt d'urgence. Un piston, suspendu au cadre, est connecté à la partie supérieure de la tige de soupape du robinet d'arrêt d'urgence. Ce dernier, comprimé par un ressort, est maintenu en place au moyen de cet appareil. Le robinet étant ainsi fixé, le mécanisme de déclenchement du robinet d'arrêt d'urgence peut être déconnecté de la tige de soupape, vérifié, mis à l'essai ou ravitaillé. On peut également déplacer ou vérifier la tige du robinet pour s'assurer si elle est opérationnelle et déloger de la tige du robinet les dépôts ou la corrosion. Le déplacement du piston par rapport au cadre est limité par un dispositif de retenu. Grâce à cet assemblage, la tige du robinet peut être vérifiée à l'aide d'un ensemble prédéterminé de déplacement sans qu'il y ait de risque d'interruption notable de l'écoulement de la vapeur dans le robinet d'arrêt d'urgence. Lorsque c'est pratique, ce vérificateur de robinet d'arrêt d'urgence est de préférence en acier inoxydable, ce matériau offrant des propriétés de résistance à la corrosion. Cet appareil de vérification prolonge la durée de vie utile sans interruption du robinet d'arrêt d'urgence, car il garantit le bon fonctionnement du robinet et donne la possibilité d'entretenir le robinet et d'autres composants connexes sans qu'il soit nécessaire de fermer la turbine à vapeur.
