An emulsified composition containing 1,4-bis(bromoacetoxy)-2-butene (BBAB) is disclosed which has the ability to disperse and/or dissolve uniformly in aqueous systems thereby effectively controlling the growth of microorganisms. The composition contains BBAB and a nonionic emulsifier. A method for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms with this composition in an amount effective to control the growth of microorganisms is also disclosed.

L'invention concerne une composition émulsionnée contenant 1,4-bis (bromoacétoxy) -2-butène (BBAB) capable de se disperser et/ou de se dissoudre uniformément dans des systèmes aqueux, maîtrisant, de ce fait, la croissance de micro-organismes. Cette composition comporte BBAB ainsi qu'un agent émulsionnant non ionique. L'invention porte également sur un procédé visant à inhiber la croissance de micro-organismes à l'aide de cette composition dans une quantité suffisante pour maîtriser cette croissance.
