ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An emulsifier for the preparation of polymers comprising more than 50 percent by weight of an alkali metal salt of polysulphonic acid of alkane of medium chain length is disclosed. The emulsifier is useful in forming emulsions of polymers especially thermoplastic polymers and in particularly polymers of vinyl chloride. It is useful in vinyl chloride polymerization and co-polymerization to form a polymer composition having improved transparent and antistatic properties. The polymer can be added before, during or after polymerization. When added after polymerization it provides improved properties to a calendered object obtained from the polymer.
