ABSTRACT Emulsion adhesive polymers which comprise residues of acrylic monomers containing 80 to 98.5% by weight of residues of alkyl esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid in which the alkyl group contains from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, from 0.1 to 20% by weight of residues of monoesters of methacrylic acid and 0.1 to 5% by weight of residues of a compound of the formula (I). Image (I) in which R, is a C13 - C14 alkyl radical and M is hydrogen, ammonia or an alkali metal, are described. Preferred emulsion adhesives are pressure sensitive adhesives which are suitable for application to the skin and may be used in surgical or medical dressings. A process for preparing the emulsion adhesive polymers is also described.
