ABSTRACT A self crosslinking vinyl(C1 to C4)alkanoate/alkylene copolymer emulsion is overpolymerised with alkyl(C1 to C4)(meth)acrylate, acrylonitrile or mixtures of these monomers. The product emulsions are unable as binders for textiles, carpets and paper; they provide solvent resistance while retaining toughness/softness to the treated substrate.
