ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An humectant for use in external animal care products comprising the moisturizer encapsulated in a paucilamellar lipid vesicle with an oil filled center, said paucilamellar lipid vesicle having a nonphospholipid surfactant as its major lipid component, said nonphospholipid surfactant being selected from a group consisting of polyoxyethylene acyl ethers; glycerol monostearate; glycerol monooleate; polyoxyethylene sorbitan oleates, palmitates, and stearates, polyoxyethylene lauryl ethers and polyoxyethylene cetyl ethers.
