- 22 - Abstract: The encapsulating or coating carrier substance used for the encapsulation or coating of one or more active compounds in a or with a carrier substance is a mixture of essentially native starch and at least one agent at least partially swelling the starch and is mixed, for encapsulation or for coating, with the active compound and at least one emulsifier. During mixing, preferably at least one oily substance is additionally added to the swollen starch with the active compound, which substance is essentially unable to form a homogeneous mixture with the starch or whereby no phase mixing between the oil and the swollen starch takes place. The mixture of the swelling agent, the emulsifier, the oily substance and the native starch with the active compound is preferably carried out at elevated temperature in a mixing apparatus, such as a mixer, kneader or extruder.
