A capsule (10) is formed from a pre-expanded foam core (12) in a compressed condition with a thermoplastic outer covering (14) completely enveloping the foam core (12) to maintain it in the compressed condition. The outer covering (14) is made of a material capable of softening sufficiently when heated to permit the foam core (12) to expand toward its original expanded uncompressed condition. Preferably, the outer covering (14) adheres to the foam (12) and then is carried by the expanding foam (12) into intimate contact with the inner surface of a hollow structural member so as to form a seal for the hollow structural member.
Cette capsule (10) est formée d'une âme de mousse (12) pré-expansée à l'état compressé, une enveloppe extérieure (14) thermoplastique enserrant totalement l'âme de mousse (12) pour la maintenir compressée. L'enveloppe extérieure (14) est faite d'une matière à même de s'amollir suffisamment une fois chauffée pour permettre à l'âme de mousse (12) de revenir à sa taille d'origine, en l'occurrence à son état expansé. L'enveloppe extérieure (14) adhère, de préférence, à la mousse (12) qui, étant en état d'expansion, pousse l'enveloppe jusqu'à la mettre en contact étroit avec la face intérieure d'un élément creux de structure, ce qui donne lieu à la formation d'un organe d'étanchéité destiné à cet élément.
