An improved block and tackle window sash balance for use with hung windows, in which a block and tackle assembly (22) and biasing apparatus (20) are totally enclosed within a longitudinal tube (14) so that the end members (24) and (26), attached to the biasing apparatus (20) and the block and tackle assembly (22), span the adjacent open ends (68) and (70) of the tube (14) and are held in place by the tension of the biasing apparatus (20).
