An end cap seal assembly (10) for an electrochemical cell such as an alkaline cell (8) comprises a convoluted end cap disk (40) which may also function as a cell terminal and an underlying insulating disk (20) also having a convoluted surface. The convoluted end cap disk (40) has a downwardly extending wall (45) with at least one aperture (48) therethrough which preferably faces the ambient environment. The insulating disk (20) has a downwardly extending wall (26) forming a rupturable membrane (23) which underlies and abuts the inside surface of the downwardly extending wall of the end cap. The rupturable membrane underlies and abuts the aperture (48) in the downwardly extending wall (45) of the end cap. When gas pressure within the cell exceeds a predetermined level the rupturable membrane (23) pushes through said aperture (48) and ruptures allowing gas to escape therefrom directly to the environment. A separate terminal plate (120) may be welded to a portion of the top surface of the convoluted end cap (40). The conductive layer of a film- laminate condition tester (155) may be connected to the terminal plate (120).
L'invention concerne un ensemble (10) obturateur de bouchon d'extrémité d'une cellule électrochimique telle qu'une pile alcaline (8), l'ensemble comprenant un disque de bouchon d'extrémité (40) à convolutions pouvant également fonctionner comme un terminal de pile; et un disque isolant (20) sous-jacent présentant également une surface à convolutions. Le disque de bouchon d'extrémité (40) à convolutions possède une paroi (45) s'étendant vers le bas et comprenant au moins une ouverture (48) ouvrant de préférence sur l'extérieur. Le disque isolant (20) possède une paroi (26) s'étendant vers le bas qui forme une membrane (23) pouvant être brisée, sous-jacente à la surface intérieure de la paroi s'étendant vers le bas du bouchon d'extrémité, contre laquelle elle bute. La membrane (23) pouvant être brisée est sous-jacente à l'ouverture (48) dans la paroi (45) s'étendant vers le bas du bouchon d'extrémité, contre laquelle elle bute. Lorsque la pression gazeuse à l'intérieur de la pile dépasse un niveau prédéterminé, la membrane (23) pouvant être brisée passe par l'ouverture (48) et se brise permettant au gaz de s'échapper directement à l'extérieur. Une plaque (120) terminale séparée peut être soudée à une partie de la surface supérieure du bouchon d'extrémité (40) à convolutions. La couche conductrice d'un dispositif, sous forme de stratifié en film, d'essai (155) de l'état de la pile peut être reliée à la plaque terminale (120).
