The present invention provides manufactured seeds and related compositions and methods. The manufactured seeds comprise a unit of a totipotent plant tissue enclosed in a protective manufactured seed coat that includes an orifice sealed by a lid. The lid has a burst strength and architecture (e.g., a dome or nipple) similar NCO those of analogous structures in a natural botanic seed.
