ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus for separating from a mixture, seeds such as wheat, barley or oats from wild oats which includes feeding the mixture to a moving inclined surface having a pile with fences disposed above the surface and at an angle to the direction of movement of the surface, the wild oats being carried upwards by the pile and the others being discharged at the bottom. In one arrangement a rotatable brush is disposed upwardly of each fence to rotate against the moving surface and remove the wild oats or other unwanted bodies from the pile of the surface passing these onto overlapping separating plates which direct the unwanted bodies downwards to an exit path. Depressions beneath the moving surface permit the latter to deflect, to allow any unwanted bodies which find their way beneath one brush to pass under the fence.
