ENERGY ABSORBING BARRIER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An energy absorbing barrier (10) dissipating kinetic energy upon impact by a moving vehicle. The barrier comprises walls (16, 18, 20) defining a con- tainer (22) closed except for a fill opening to admit water. Various configurations of side walls are dis- closed. The side walls are resiliently deformable to return to their original shape after being struck, the resilience, thickness and deformability of the walls tending to form a capture region (72) above and in ad- vance of the vehicle tire to slow the tire and prevent it from climbing and vaulting the barrier.
