ABSTRACT ENERGY ABSORBING DEVICE An energy absorbing device suitable for use in the leg structure of aircraft passenger seating for the purpose of attenuating crash forces comprises first and second attachment fittings 11, 2? with a tube 10 of fibre reinforced plastics material extending there???er. Tube 10 has a crush i???iation band 17 at which buckling of the tube commences upon compressive overload. Long, tough fibres are used as the reinforcing material in the tube so that, when compression of the device has concluded, there is a residual tensile capability. Successful operation of the deivce is facilitated by guide means which help to maintain the collapsing portion of the tube in axial alighment with the uncollapsed portion and a tube wall straightener which acts to unbuckle the collapsed fibres when tensile load is applied.
