The invention relates to apparatus which absorbs G-force resulting from an explosion event near a vehicle in order to protect the occupant from potentially dangerous levels of G-force. The apparatus has first (12) and second mounting (14) attached to the occupant seat. An absorbtion mechanism (20) in the form of a mitigating strip (22) is provided between the mounting members and an anvil (28) is provided on such that when the vehicle, and hence the first mounting member, is subjected to the explosion induced G-force, the mitigating strip is bent and pulled over the anvil. This absorbs a portion of the G-force which would otherwise he imparted on the occupant hence minimising the risk of injury to the occupant. A method of protecting a vehicle occupant from explosion induced G-force is also provided.
L'invention porte sur un appareil qui absorbe la force d'accélération résultant d'un événement d'explosion à proximité d'un véhicule afin de protéger l'occupant contre des niveaux potentiellement dangereux de force d'accélération. L'appareil comporte des premier et second montages assujettis au siège de l'occupant. Un mécanisme d'absorption se présentant sous la forme d'une bande d'atténuation est disposé entre les éléments de montage, et une enclume est prévue de telle sorte que, lorsque le véhicule et de ce fait le premier élément de montage sont soumis à une force de gravité induite par une explosion, la bande d'atténuation fléchit et est tirée sur l'enclume. Ceci absorbe une partie de la force d'accélération qui serait autrement communiquée à l'occupant, minimisant de ce fait le risque de blessure pour l'occupant. L'invention concerne également un procédé de protection d'un occupant de véhicule contre une force d'accélération induite par une explosion.
