A finned-coil heat exchanger has a housing with spaced walls defining an internal chamber, heated fluid conducting tubes, a series of spaced fins in contact with the tubes to transfer heat to upwardly flowing air, the fins being horizontally spaced with the larger dimension of the fin surface extending vertically and the shorter dimension extending horizontally, and a fan unit adjacent the housing upper end to draw air therefrom, whereby air within the chamber rises naturally as a result of buoyancy due to its heat gain and the fan thereby uses less energy to draw air from the housing with the overall assembly being more compact and operating more quietly. An air inlet is defined at the housing bottom or at the lower end of the front wall. The housing may have a chimney shape to enhance hot air movement or have an enclosure over the upper outlet. A series of such heat exchangers may be combined within a common housing with a common fan to increase overall capacity.
