ENERGY EFFICIENT METHOD OF PRODUCING PROCESS STEAM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Process steam is produced from a feed of low pressure steam by fix- ing the water content of the feed at a selected water-steam ratio, injecting the two-phase mixture into a helical screw compressor, and vaporizing the water in the feed during compression. The water-steam ratio is set so that, given the compression ratio characteristic of the compressor and the tempera- ture and pressure of the feed, process steam at the selected temperature and pressure is produced. The compression proceeds along a direct, energy-effici- ent thermodynamic path. -1-
