ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION: A magnetic seal for releasably sealing the door and cabinet of a thermally insulated container, while reducing heat transfer between an interior volume and an exterior of the container. A retainer is affixed to the cabinet or the door and defines a first planar surface, and a flexible magnetic seal gasket defines a second planar surface. The gasket is affixed to the retainer by tape which includes a layer of thermally insulating material having adhesive on both sides thereof. The layer reduces heat flow from the exterior to the interior volume of the cabinet.
