The present invention provides methods and systems for extracting ethanol from an ethanol-water solution comprising (1) extracting ethanol from an ethanol-water solution with a first solvent comprising an esterified fatty acid, wherein the esterified fatty acid comprises a hydroxylated fatty acid component and an alcohol component such that the alcohol component is a C3-6 alcohol, such that the distribution coefficient for ethanol in the mixture of the ethanol-water solution and the first solvent is at least 0.02 favoring the transfer of ethanol from the ethanol-water solution to the first solvent, thereby extracting the ethanol from the ethanol-water solution into the first solvent, and (2) extracting the ethanol-enriched first solvent with carbon dioxide, such that the carbon dioxide is at a liquid or near supercritical phase, wherein the distribution coefficient for ethanol in a mixture of the first solvent and the carbon dioxide is at least 0.1 favoring the transfer of ethanol from the first solvent to the carbon dioxide.

La présente invention concerne des procédés et systèmes servant à extraire l'éthanol d'une solution d'éthanol-eau comprenant : (1) d'extraire l'éthanol d'une solution d'éthanol-eau avec un premier solvant comprenant un acide gras estérifié, ledit acide gras estérifié comprenant un composant acide gras hydroxylé et un composant alcool, le composant alcool étant un alcool en C3-6, de façon à ce que le coefficient de partage de l'éthanol dans le mélange de la solution d'éthanol-eau et du premier solvant soit d'au moins 0,02 en faveur du transfert de l'éthanol de la solution d'éthanol-eau vers le premier solvant, ce par quoi on extrait l'éthanol de la solution d'éthanol-eau vers le premier solvant; et (2) d'effectuer l'extraction du premier solvant enrichi en éthanol avec du dioxyde de carbone, le dioxyde de carbone étant en phase liquide ou presque supercritique, le coefficient de partage de l'éthanol dans le mélange du premier solvant et du dioxyde de carbone étant d'au moins 0,1 en faveur du transfert de l'éthanol du premier solvant vers le dioxyde de carbone.
