ENERGY SAVING HEATING VESSEL Abstract A fluid heating vessel adapted for heating its contents by contact with a surface heater such as a "hotplate" or heating platen is disclosed. The described vessels typically have a heating rate 2 to 5 times faster than a conventional glass vessel while consuming about 1/2 as much energy. The vessel includes glass or plastic sidewalls of low thermal conductance and a composite bottom. The bottom has a high heating surface contact area and includes an impervious inner layer and an outer layer of high thermal conductance, preferably of a graphitic material. The vessel can be made in a variety of shapes adapted for use in laboratory, domes- tic service, and industrial applications.
