Disclosed is a method of controlling the air supply to an internal combustion engine having a means to throttle the air flow to the engine comprising determining the air demand in response to a driver initiated signal; determining an initial position of the throttle means in response to the driver initiated signal; determining the actual rate of air supply and comparing the actual rate of air supply with the determined air demand; moving the throttle means to the inital position, the position of the throttle means being adjusted to bring the actual air supply within acceptable operating limits of the determined air demand.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de réguler l'alimentation en air d'un moteur à combustion interne comprenant un papillon de réglage de l'arrivée d'air dans le moteur, ce procédé comportant les étapes suivantes: la demande d'air est déterminée en réponse à un signal généré par le conducteur, la position initiale du papillon est déterminée en réponse à ce signal, le taux réel d'arrivée de l'air est déterminé puis comparé à la demande d'air déterminée, le papillon est remis dans sa position initiale, sa position étant réglée de manière à porter l'alimentation réelle en air dans des limites de fonctionnement acceptables selon la demande.
